Romney are "Dual Purpose" sheep
Romney Sheep were first bred and refined in the wetest part of England. Sometimes referred to English Bog Sheep because Romney can graze in wet pastures with less of a chance of foot rot. Romney have a thick warm coat that protects them from the rain and snow often prefering to be out in inclimate weather rather than coming into the barn. Grown for meat Romney lambs larger than most meat breeds when finished. Romney wool is coveted by hand spinners due to its superior crimp. These facts make Romney well suited for the Pacific Northwest.
